Biography

  • Dr. Sherine Brown is dedicated to advancing health promotion, disease prevention, and eliminating health disparities as a way to specifically address the social conditions affecting the underserved.
  • Dr. Brown completed her Ph.D. at Harvard University, School of Public Health (Boston, Ma) in Biological Sciences in Public Health, with a concentration in Nutritional Biochemistry where she studied gene-diet interactions, lipid metabolism, and coronary disease risk.
  • Dr. Brown is currently an Assistant Professor in the Nutritional Sciences (Dietetics) Program at Morgan State University, School of Community Health and Policy.
  • Her research includes studying the relationship between diet and cardiovascular disease, cancer & obesity; cholesterol metabolism; colon cancer screening; behavior & lifestyle; perception & body image; food science & innovation.
  • Dr. Brown has co-authored two books, and published manuscripts in both peer reviewed journals & U.S. federal documents.
  • She is also the co-founder and faculty director of Morgan's first student-lead urban Community Organic Vegetable Garden, sponsored by the Foods and Nutrition Pre-Professional Club.
  • Dr. Brown enjoys the great outdoors, traveling, the performing arts, volleyball, and photography.
