JHP publishes all accepted articles under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), ensuring your psychological research is immediately and permanently accessible to the global community.
Open access licensing removes barriers to knowledge, allowing clinicians, educators, policymakers, and fellow researchers to access, share, and build upon your findings without restrictions, fostering a more equitable scientific landscape.
Under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, others are free to:
- Share: Copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
- Adapt: Remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, including commercial use.
- No Additional Restrictions: Users cannot apply legal terms that restrict others from exercising the rights granted by the license.
The only requirement is proper attribution. Users must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
JHP operates on a model where authors retain copyright to their work. Upon acceptance, authors grant Open Access Pub a non-exclusive license to publish and distribute the article. This means:
Author Rights
- Post preprints to institutional repositories.
- Use the article in future compilations or books.
- Present the work at conferences without restriction.
- Self-archive the final published version.
Publisher Rights
- First public distribution of the Version of Record.
- Include the article in indexing and archiving platforms.
- Apply the CC BY 4.0 license to all distributed copies.
If your article contains material for which you do not hold copyright (e.g., figures, tables, or substantial quotations), you must obtain permission from the original copyright holder and provide proof of permission during submission. Ensure all third-party material is clearly attributed in captions.
JHP supports the posting of preprints (prior to peer review) to recognized servers such as PsyArXiv or OSF Preprints. Upon publication, authors should update their preprint record with a link to the final Version of Record.

Public Access and Funder Compliance
Some authors are required by their funders to make their research publicly available. Under the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy, Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication on or after July 1, 2025, must be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance and made publicly available without embargo on the official date of publication.
What JHP provides: JHP publishes the Version of Record under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The journal also permits authors to deposit their Author Accepted Manuscript in funder-designated repositories. Upon acceptance, we confirm the accepted manuscript version and record the funder and grant information supplied by the authors.
Author responsibility: JHP does not currently deposit manuscripts in PubMed Central on behalf of authors. Authors are responsible for determining which funder requirements apply, initiating the appropriate repository submission and completing any required NIHMS approval steps.
Eligibility and successful processing through PubMed Central or NIHMS are determined according to the relevant funder and NIH/NLM requirements.
Important: The deposit of an individual article in PubMed Central may result in that article appearing in PubMed. It does not mean that JHP is indexed in MEDLINE, included in the PMC Journal List or that all JHP articles are available through PubMed. The journal's current coverage is listed on the Indexing page.
