Article Processing Charges

The JHC article processing charge is USD 2,100 for an accepted article, across article types, and is payable after acceptance.

JHC does not charge a manuscript-submission fee. The article processing charge is separate from editorial assessment, peer review, and acceptance decisions.

What the charge means

The article processing charge applies only to an accepted manuscript and is separate from editorial judgment.

Editorial independence

Payment is not a factor in editorial assessment, peer review, or acceptance.

Open-access publication

Accepted articles are published open access under the stated CC BY licence.

No manuscript-submission fee

JHC does not charge a fee to submit a manuscript for editorial consideration.

What the charge covers

The article processing charge supports publication services for an accepted article.

  • Editorial handling and peer-review coordination.
  • Production and online open-access publication.
  • Crossref DOI registration and publication metadata.
  • Preparation, hosting and deposit of publication files and metadata for digital-preservation processing through Portico.

Waivers and discounts

Authors should request any waiver or discount before or at manuscript submission.

Eligibility routes

Publisher policy includes support for authors in low- and lower-middle-income economies, student rates, and eligible editor and reviewer discounts of up to 30%.

How to request support

Send the request and relevant supporting information to the editorial office before or at submission. Eligibility and amount are reviewed under publisher policy.

Editorial independence

A waiver or discount request does not affect editorial assessment, peer review, or acceptance.

Manuscript withdrawal policy

A manuscript may be withdrawn free of charge within 3 days of submission.

  • After 3 days, a withdrawal charge of 30% of the APC applies (USD 630 at the current JHC APC).
  • If peer review has begun, the withdrawal charge may be non-negotiable.
  • A rejected manuscript has no APC. Authors must formally withdraw a manuscript before submitting it to another journal.

Invoice and payment questions

Payment information is addressed after an editorial acceptance decision through the existing journal process.

  • Use the accounts contact for invoice or payment questions.
  • Use the editorial office for waiver questions or publication-policy clarification.
  • Review the author instructions and editorial policies before beginning submission.

Review the fee and policy information before submitting.

The article charge does not replace the author instructions or determine the editorial outcome.
