IJPR welcomes manuscripts that make a clear, substantive contribution to psychotherapy practice or research. General submissions are open for work within the journal’s scope.
IJPR welcomes general submissions throughout the year.
Psychotherapy work within IJPR’s remit
These topic groups are connected by a direct contribution to psychotherapy practice or research. Clinical psychology, counselling, psychiatry and mental-health work are relevant where that psychotherapy connection is explicit.
Approaches, interventions and outcomes
Psychotherapeutic approaches and evidence-based psychological interventions, treatment effectiveness, and clinical outcomes where the psychotherapy contribution is clear.
Clinical settings and communities
Trauma and PTSD, mood and anxiety, mental-health comorbidity in physical illness, life-stage and couple, family or group settings, and cross-cultural or person-centred practice.
Education, ethics and implementation
Assessment, psychotherapy education, training, supervision, reflective and ethical practice, and service delivery or implementation where psychotherapy remains central.
Who should consider submitting?
The journal is intended for psychotherapists, counsellors, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, mental-health researchers, educators, supervisors, trainees, institutions and multidisciplinary teams whose work addresses a defined psychotherapy question or contribution.
Manuscript-fit boundary: IJPR may not be the right venue for general mental-health or clinical work without a meaningful psychotherapy connection, purely pharmacological studies, basic neuroscience without clinical psychotherapy relevance, or treatment claims without appropriate scholarly support.

Reviews relevant to psychotherapy; systematic reviews should follow the current author guidance.

Case-based work with a clear clinical psychotherapy contribution, prepared in line with current guidance.

Brief reports that share a defined practice-based or clinical contribution.

A clear submission makes its psychotherapy contribution and research responsibilities easy for the editors to assess.
- 1Check scope alignment. State how the work contributes to psychotherapy practice, research, process, theory, outcomes, assessment, education, ethics or implementation.
- 2Choose the appropriate manuscript category. Use the current author guidance to prepare the work and apply reporting guidance relevant to the study design.
- 3Address research and publication responsibilities. Prepare the authorship, funding and competing-interests declarations required for the submission.
- 4Protect participants and clinical material. For work involving people or case material, consult the current guidance for applicable ethics, consent, confidentiality and de-identification requirements.
Publishing information to check
Review the relevant journal guidance before choosing to submit. Editorial assessment and decisions are independent of APC payment or waiver consideration.
