Charge USD 2,100 No submission fee Payable after acceptance
The charge
One rate, for every article type, payable only once a manuscript has been accepted.
| Article type | Charge | When it becomes payable |
|---|---|---|
| All article types | USD 2,100 | On acceptance |
The charge is USD 2,100 and it is the same whether the accepted manuscript is a research article, a review, a systematic review, a short communication, a case report, a perspective or an editorial. There is no page charge, no color charge, no figure charge and no supplementary material charge.
There is no submission fee. There is no submission fee, and no APC is charged for a rejected manuscript. Withdrawal charges, where applicable, follow the journal’s withdrawal policy.
Payment, and an author’s ability to pay, have no influence on peer review, on the editorial assessment, or on the decision to accept or reject a manuscript. The charge arises only after a decision that was taken without reference to it.
What the charge covers
Everything between acceptance and permanent availability.
Peer review and editorial handling
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Reviewer coordination, editorial assessment and the management of revision through to decision. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Production
Copyediting, typesetting, figure preparation, author proof and the published version of record.
Identifier registration
A Crossref DOI for the article and the deposit of its metadata, so it can be cited and found.
Open access distribution
Immediate open access under CC BY 4.0, with no subscription and no reader charge, and with copyright retained by the authors.
Preservation
Commitment of the content to the Portico digital-preservation archive, described on the indexing and discovery page.
Correction of the record
Any correction, retraction or expression of concern that the article later requires, at no further charge.
Fee relief
How to ask, and what asking does and does not affect.
The journal considers requests for fee relief. A request is made to the editorial office at [email protected] before or at submission, stating the manuscript and the circumstances.
A request is handled by the editorial office, separately from the editorial assessment. The editors who decide the manuscript are not told whether relief was requested or granted.
Requesting fee relief has no bearing on whether a manuscript is accepted, and being granted it has no bearing on how the manuscript is handled.
Invoice and payment
What happens after acceptance.
- Acceptance The decision is issued. Production does not begin until the charge is settled or relief is agreed.
- Invoice The editorial office issues an invoice to the corresponding author or to the billing contact the author nominates. An invoice can be addressed to an institution, a department or a funder where that is how the charge will be paid, and can be reissued with corrected billing details on request.
- Taxes and bank charges Any tax that applies in the payer’s jurisdiction, and any bank or intermediary charge on an international transfer, is payable by the payer in addition to the invoiced amount. The journal does not add a handling fee of its own.
- Payment Payment is made by the methods stated on the invoice. Questions about payment go to [email protected].
- Production On settlement the article moves into copyediting, typesetting and author proof, then to publication with its registered DOI.
Withdrawal policy
