Eligibility
Prospective editors should hold a PhD or equivalent and have an established publication record in zoological science. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in areas within ZR scope including specific taxonomic groups, ecological systems, or research methodologies relevant to animal science.
- Doctoral degree in zoology, ecology, biology, or related field
- Active research program with recent publications in animal science
- Prior peer review experience as reviewer or author
- Commitment to timely, constructive manuscript evaluation
- No outstanding ethical concerns or conflicts of interest
Selection Criteria
Applications are evaluated based on research expertise alignment with ZR scope, publication quality and recency, taxonomic breadth or depth, prior editorial or review experience, institutional standing, and geographic and taxonomic balance within current board composition. We particularly welcome applications from researchers working on underrepresented taxa or regions.
Time Commitment: Associate editors typically handle 8-12 manuscripts annually, each requiring approximately 2-4 hours for evaluation, reviewer coordination, and decision preparation for zoological submissions.

Applications are reviewed by the editor-in-chief and senior editorial team. Initial appointments are for two years with renewal opportunity based on performance.
