JDOI supports open science by encouraging data sharing and providing clear archiving permissions for dental research.
Preserving Dental Research for the Future
We believe in the long-term preservation and accessibility of dental research data to support reproducibility and scientific advancement.
JDOI encourages authors to make research data available to support reproducibility and facilitate secondary analyses. Data underlying published findings should be made accessible through appropriate repositories whenever ethically and legally permissible.
Authors retain the right to archive and share their published work under our open access model:
- Preprints: Authors may post preprints to preprint servers at any time
- Author's Final Manuscript: May be archived in institutional repositories
- Published Version: The final published PDF may be shared under CC BY 4.0 license
- Research Data: Underlying datasets may be deposited in appropriate repositories
- Clinical Images: May be reused with appropriate citation and patient consent
For dental and biomedical research data, we recommend the following repositories:
- Figshare: General-purpose repository for research data and materials
- Zenodo: Open-access repository hosted by CERN
- Dryad: Curated digital repository for research data
- Institutional Repositories: Many universities maintain research data repositories
- Discipline-Specific: Specialized dental and biomedical databases as appropriate
Data Availability Statement
All published articles should include a Data Availability Statement describing how readers can access the underlying research data. If data cannot be shared due to privacy or ethical concerns, this should be clearly stated with justification.
Dental research often involves patient health information. Authors must ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations including HIPAA and GDPR. Patient data should be appropriately de-identified before sharing. Clinical images require documented patient consent for any reuse beyond the original publication.
JDOI is committed to long-term digital preservation of published content. All articles are archived to ensure continued accessibility. We work with preservation services to protect against data loss and ensure your research remains available to future generations of dental professionals.
Any corrections or updates to published articles are handled through formal processes with clear versioning. Original versions remain accessible, and all changes are transparently documented to maintain the integrity of the scientific record.

Contact Editorial OfficePublic Access and Funder Compliance
Some authors are required by their funders to make their research publicly available. Under the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy, Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication on or after July 1, 2025, must be submitted to PubMed Central upon acceptance and made publicly available without embargo on the official date of publication.
What JDOI provides: JDOI publishes the Version of Record under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence. The journal also permits authors to deposit their Author Accepted Manuscript in funder-designated repositories. Upon acceptance, we confirm the accepted manuscript version and record the funder and grant information supplied by the authors.
Author responsibility: JDOI does not currently deposit manuscripts in PubMed Central on behalf of authors. Authors are responsible for determining which funder requirements apply, initiating the appropriate repository submission and completing any required NIHMS approval steps.
Eligibility and successful processing through PubMed Central or NIHMS are determined according to the relevant funder and NIH/NLM requirements.
Important: The deposit of an individual article in PubMed Central may result in that article appearing in PubMed. It does not mean that JDOI is indexed in MEDLINE, included in the PMC Journal List or that all JDOI articles are available through PubMed. The journal's current coverage is listed on the Indexing page.
